Gus Waterford Memorial Scholarship Fund

This year, the City of Portland proclaimed  February 2018 to be known as "Pioneer Black Firefighters of Portland Month." In conjunction with this historic proclamation, the Gus Waterford Memorial Scholarship was created at Portland Community College.

Augustus "Gus" Waterford was the first black firefighter to join the Portland Fire Bureau. He was stationed at Engine 6 beginning in 1890. While all firefighters are known for their bravery, it takes an extra level of courage to be the first person to break down a social barrier.

Beginning in the 2018-19 academic year, the Portland Community College Foundation will award the first Gus Waterford Memorial Scholarship to a first-generation college student studying Fire Protection Technology at PCC. This scholarship will ensure that Gus Waterford’s legacy will live on.

To support this scholarship fund, you can make a gift using the form below or mail a check to the PCC Foundation at PCC Foundation | PO Box 19000 | Portland, OR 97280. Make checks payable to "PCC Foundation" and write "Gus Waterford Memorial Scholarship" in the memo line.

For questions about this scholarship fund, please  contact the PCC Foundation at 971-722-4382 or foundation@pcc.edu.

Operation Warm - Coats for Kids

Portland Firefighters keep children warm this winter by giving them new American-made coats.

Thanks to donations from great community businesses Tripwire and Ninkasi Brewing, we were able to keep hundreds of Portland children in need of a coat warm this winter. We partner with Operation Warm to get these amazing coats made right here in the USA.

Many thanks to all the firefighters who showed up off duty this morning to make this event a huge success!

Fire defeats Police in 2nd annual Rose City United match

On Saturday, September 12th, the Portland Fire Bureau's soccer team defeated the Portland Police Bureau's team 4-1 in the second annual Rose City United charitable soccer match at Providence Park. The match raised over $1000 in cash for PF&R's Toy 'N' Joy and the PPB's Sunshine Division programs in addition to donations of toys and non-perishable foods. See the highlight video and article covering PF&R's second straight victory here!

Congratulations to Fire Fighter Todd Sabrowski on his hat trick, the Portland Fire Fighters' team, and a big THANK YOU goes out to the Portland Timbers FC for their support in this young tradition!
